Ensure legal compliance

Whether your employees are professional drivers or just drive to the occasional meeting or event, any driving activities that they undertake are covered by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This means business owners and managers have clear legal responsibilities to ensure any driving activities are carried out safely, with the risks to drivers and other road users minimised as far as is reasonably practicable.

The law says also that every business must have a policy for managing health and safety at work – that includes driving activities. Any vehicle used for a work journey, whether that be a commercial vehicle, a company car or a privately owned car, is considered an extension of the workplace.
